Amsterdam - A trip to the Venice of the North

This fantastic place is considered one of the places that almost everyone wants to visit. On our way from Germany by car to Amsterdam, we had the privilege of seeing the many fields of flowers, they looked like a big yellow carpet, and the smell, ahh the smell was a wonderful scent of flowers. In the background of this beautiful picture, like a painting, came the beautiful windmills.

Arriving in the town that originated as a small fishing village in the 12th century, we found the historic and the contemporary sharing the same landscape, the nostalgia of the bicycles leaning against the bridges, often covered in flowers, is enchanting. On the railings of the bridges we find a tradition that is repeated throughout Europe, a symbolic way of expressing the love and commitment between two people, various padlocks attached to the railings, some with initials others with colored ribbons, romanticism is indeed present in Amsterdam.

Let's talk about the famous "Coffeeshops", which attract more than 5 million visitors from all over the world every year. Because the local authorities tolerate the sale of cannabis and hashish for personal consumption, this place called "Coffeeshop" was created. Here you can also find products and devices for the consumption of weed, such as pipes, bongs and silk for making cigarettes, and most "Coffeeshops" also sell food and drink.

Just to make a difference, there are also several "Koffiehuis" in the city, which are "coffee houses" that sell not only their own coffee, but also fast food and snacks, or the so-called coffee house can also simply be a traditional bar.

Charming cobbled alleys are framed by balconies and small flowered staircases, and most of them are transported by bicycle. This place draws the attention of its visitors. There are more than 100 km of canals, about 90 islands and 1500 bridges, and there are 3 main canals dug in the 17th century, which were of paramount importance during the "Dutch Golden Age", seen from above it resembles a large spider's web.

There's a lot of history everywhere, as well as being chosen as the home of several renowned artists such as Vincent Van Gogh and Anne Frank, among others. There are more than 1,550 works of art scattered throughout the city.

Seven of the 500 largest companies in the world, such as ING Group, Philips and others, have their headquarters in the Dutch capital, and the Booking.com building is beautiful.

Most hotels don't offer on-site parking, and it can be a long walk with your suitcase from the parking lot to the hotel of your choice. On the way there are lots of stores selling articles mainly focusing on cannabis, almost every souvenir store sells candies and cakes made from the herb, and in the squares the smell is very strong everywhere.

The Amsterdam Stock Exchange is the oldest in the world and is located in the city center. The main attraction is the canals, which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Known as the "Venice of the North", the canal boat trips are considered "the best experience" by Trip Advisor.
