Alcobaça (Portugal) - Spain - Saint-Sebastien-sur-Loire (France)

A trip specially selected without toll roads.

The toll in Portugal is complicated, you have to see online what you have to pay. If you are registered, the full amount is deducted from your account.
Spain charges a reasonable amount, France is very expensive. If you avoid the toll you save a few euros, in my case it was almost €85.

My ride was okay. I set off at around 11:30 (WET) and decided to take a long break at 21:30 (CET) in the evening. Also to sleep, of course.
The next morning I set off at seven o'clock. In between, and especially on the toll-free highway in France, I had two traffic jams that cost me 2.5 hours.
I arrived in Saint-Sebastien-sur-Loire, very close to Nantes in France, at 6:30 pm.

Taking into account Western European time and Central European time, and minor breaks, I was on the road for about 20 hours. Excluding the traffic jam, I was driving for 17.5 hours on the 1,470 km route. By the way, the toll route is about 1,410 km. The only perfect thing about toll roads is ... you are faster (because you can drive faster on highways).

But the side roads are worth seeing, whether small villages or through the mountains.
Whether Portugal, Spain or France. Unfortunately, I can't do both ... Driving and taking photos. Rest stops are in rather inconspicuous places. But I want to drive this route again, but then with a photographer on board, or someone will drive for me. In any case, I was thrilled.

This trip was worth the effort.

But sleeping in a packed car is not really pleasant, so next time it's better to go without suitcases and boxes ... then sleeping in the car will also work.
